In 1998, Kamran Jawaid decided to pursue his love for
the movies by making movies. For a major movie / movie-making buff, at the age
of 16, it seemed a distant, if unattainable, dream. In the next two years, Mr. Jawaid
learned the intricacies of the Hollywood movie business, and armed with
a handful of Hollywood-friendly pitches he had setup key contacts within
the industry, associated with a few projects and then at the peak of his
Hollywood season decided to take a break.
In 2004, Mr. Jawaid took a brief hiatus
from the industry to work on his own projects while consulting on and
off on motion picture projects.
In 2004, Mohammad Kamran Jawaid started writing about
movies.
Mohammad Kamran Jawaid is the Chief Contributing Movie
Critic at iMAGES, a part of Pakistan’s leading English language
Newspaper Dawn, where utilizing his considerable experiences in film
development has been a regularly published authority on Hollywood.
Mr. Jawaid has over 100 published reviews to date,
excluding exclusive coverage of the major award ceremonies (The Oscars
and the Golden Globes). In fact Mr. Jawaid, and fellow film critic
Farheen Jawaid write the nation’s first and only Oscar Prediction
column.
Meanwhile
Animadversion, is Pakistan’s first and
exclusive movie criticism column featuring two opinions on one film. The
highly praised Second Opinion column is a first that features aspects of
journalistic criticism in a reader friendly standard.
On television, Mr. Jawaid appears as the Media
Analyst-cum-Movie Critic at Bakhabar Savera (roughly translated as
Informed Mornings), ARY New’s morning show. Mr. Jawaid’s segment Khabar
Bakhabar runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The show also features a movie
review system exclusive to the show.
Currently, in Hollywood, currently Mr. Jawaid is
developing two motion picture properties, while plans are underway for a
batch of motion picture properties in Pakistan. These plans fall under
the fictional umbrella of ‘The K Initiative’. The title of the umbrella
is fictional, and for personal use only. The projects are real.
